PRACTICAL DESIGN

We design our houses to fit in with local traditions and environmental challenges. We use strong materials that are readily available locally, and build on stilts to protect against flooding and germ-laden mud. Raising the home provides two undercovered areas - the sleeping area and space underneath for parking,

workshops, cooking or general living.

The key feature of our design allows the house to be relocated once erected –  a big problem as many people battle unstable conditions and frequent natural disasters, so ‘land grabbing’ and displacement is common. With this in mind, our homes can be flat­packed for easy transpot and setup, which provides

long-term security to our families.

PRACTICAL FEATURES

Our houses are designed to withstand Cambodia's harsh weather conditions. They include internal cladding and cross ventilation to shelter families from soaring temperatures, and woven inner-wall panels and bamboo floors to protect them from storms and provide cooling relief from extreme heat. 

 

They also provide simple touches that improve families' quality of living, including solar lighting, phone chargers, rainwater collection systems and rice hull insulation.

Other features include:

• Quality construction using steel box tubing (galvanised steel) with maintenance-free and won't rust.

• Colorbond style cladding.

• Flatpack delivery system that allows us to put two homes on the truck at a time.

• Fully insulated with rice hulls to keep homes cool in high temperatures. 

• Woven inner wall panels for added comfort. A sustainable local grown resource, handwoven by local communities.

• Cross-flow ventilation.

• Four lights each containing 12 LEDs.

• Rainwater collection system and storage, locally made with a 500L clay water jar.

• Large windows and lockable doors ensuring natural light and security.

INTERNATIONAL & DISASTER HOUSING
